Today, the Oceanside Planning Commission will hear a proposal to demolish an existing automotive service center in order to develop a mixed-use condominium development at 1601 South Coast Highway.

The applicant, Hallmark Communities, proposed to develop a 54-unit condominium development with 3,244 square feet of ground-floor commercial space within one large 4-story building.

In addition to the commercial space, the first floor of the building will include the covered open parking garage with a total of 77 spaces, a utility room, machine room, electrical room, lobby and bike space. The second thru fourth floors will contain the residential units, common space, walkways, common stairs, elevators and private decks. A common area courtyard will also be located on the second floor with amenities such as outdoor sofas, fire pits and BBQ grills.

The project will consist of 34, 2-bedroom units and 20 3-bedroom units, with 5 units designated as very-low-income units.

Designed by Flair Architects, the project will feature a contemporary architectural design that draws from many of the eclectic and recently developed in-fill Urban Beach architectural design projects within the City of Oceanside.
